Month One Favorites

Hi little one,
Your daddy and I are still finding it hard to believe that you're already over a month old. We talk about when I was pregnant with you (mostly referencing how big my ankles were, or my weird ice craving that I don't have anymore - thank GOD), and it seems like it was just yesterday that I was working on the weekly chalkboards to show off how big the baby bump was getting. But here you are! We love every minute of every day with you. We also love ridiculously big hair accessories, as you can see from your one month picture below.
So at one month old, you...
-make noises like your daddy (translate: fart very loudly, and without shame)

-wear size 1 diapers and 0-3 month clothes

-hate cold wipes when I change your diapers

-love going anywhere in the car, although you hate it when we buckle you into your car seat

-have to be swaddled at night in order to sleep

-also have to listen to the white noise machine (you like the rain noise the best)

-love looking at ceiling fans and lights

-sleep for four-five hour stretches

-eat for about 3 hours a day, on average

-move every facial muscle you have after you eat and before you fall asleep

-will randomly make a face like you're getting ready to scream bloody murder, then you'll take a deep breath and be totally fine

And here are some of the things that we couldn't live without during your first month here.

Okay, sweet little girl. The Chiefs are on and we're going to root for them to win! Daddy is already camped out in front of the television watching the game with you, and I can hear you cheering for Jamaal Charles all the way upstairs! (Or maybe you need a diaper change. I'll go find out.)

I love you, little one!

August 14

Hi little one,
Happy 31 week chalkboard! It's SO CRAZY that we are in a single-digit weekly countdown now. I'm so excited, and a little bit terrified (but in a good way, I promise!).
Back to School: What a week it's been. As you can tell from the picture, I started work again this week. Words cannot express how exhausted I am as I type this. Don't get me wrong...this year's group of kids is AWESOME, but I totally forgot how much work it is to walk around a classroom, be on constant alert, and those trips back and forth down the hallway to the office? No thank you. Daddy and I visited my classroom last Sunday and we got a lot done before school started, which made me really happy! I want to wait until all of my classroom decor is up before I post a picture, so be sure to stay on the lookout next week. (I keep telling myself that slow and steady is best, but inside it sucks that my room wasn't 100% ready before classes began.)

Here Kitty, Kitty...and Doggy: It's also been quite the week for all of the pets! The "back to school" vibe must be contagious. As you can tell, Dolce learned how to raise her hand when she has a question ("Bone? Did someone say bone?").
Meagram put herself in what I like to call "crib jail". She was playing around the nursery last week while I was painting it. I think this is a very appropriate picture, given that she likes to get into trouble so much.
Disco has just been hanging out. I was walking by the office and perfectly timed this picture. She looked at me like, "Who IS that big fat lady coming down the hall??"
...and this is your pup, Rusty. He is a very chill dude-like doggy, in case you didn't know already.
Harlowe had a little bit of a scare this week. I won't post a picture of it because it scared the crap out of me, but just know that she is getting better. I went downstairs to feed her and give her some love, and noticed a bunch of bloody scabs around her ears and on her tummy. The awesome vet at Banfield saw her yesterday and gave her an antibiotic shot and a steroid shot, and said we need to monitor her for a food allergy. We also had to move her litter box out of the utility room because her allergy might have had something to do with the concrete floor. Either way, though, she looks 1000 times healthier now. And her boyfriend, Baxter, is still doing great. He just likes to meow every second of every day. :)

Sleep? You Mean Nighttime Nap?: I have had the worst time sleeping lately. I've developed Restless Leg Syndrome at some point during this pregnancy, and I just thrash around in bed. It's awful, and I wake up grumpy every morning. (Or maybe that has something to do with going back to work? Hmmm.)  But while I've been restlessly thrashing, I did manage to get the Registry Must Haves and Back To School Must Haves collages done. I will give you a preview of what they look like now, and then add them to the Favorites section of the blog this weekend. I'm really happy with how they turned out!

It's Dead to Me: This last picture pretty much sums up my entire existence at this point, and I laughed my butt off when I saw it. Bending over is a huge HELL NO. Have I mentioned how much I can't wait for you to get here?? ;)

That's all for this week, sweet little girl. I can't wait to see you in 64-ish days!! I love you SO much.

July 16

Hi little one,
Happy 27 weeks!

Brand new: It's seriously like we got a whole new house, with our new carpet! We are still in the process of moving things back, but here's a sneak preview...

Isn't it SO PRETTY? It looks just like cookies and cream ice cream! And the best part?? It smells so good! New carpet has to be one of my favorite smells, along with new tires and new shoes. Daddy shook his head and called me a weirdo when he caught me smelling one of the stairs yesterday, but I don't care. I'm not making dinner again until the new smell goes away :)

True love: We got a sneak peek at our first wedding photo from Henderson Photography. I'll admit, when I first looked at it I thought, there's no way that's your daddy and me. But it is! Now I'm even more excited to see the rest in a few weeks!

Brace me: The past few days I've woken up to very sore wrists. It's almost like I broke my thumbs while I was asleep! I called the doctor and she suggested I get brace support to wear at night because she thinks I may have developed carpal tunnel during pregnancy. I wore them for the first time last night and felt WAY better today! Just something for us to monitor as we go through the next three months. I reminded Daddy that if this is the most of our worries, we are VERY lucky.

Working hard: I've kept busy this week fielding quotes and bids for the plumbing and then "overseeing" the installation of the carpet, but I've also spent a lot of time revamping the blog by adding the new Favorites and Chalkboard pages you see on the top banner (pictures of your nursery inspiration and my pregnancy 'must haves' from these sections are below). I just want something you can be proud of, even if it's only a silly blog that you can look back on someday and read. Now if only I could convince your daddy that it's his turn to write an entry or two! :)

Get well soon: Lastly, we want to offer your Aunt Sally some prayers and support. She hasn't been feeling well, and I can't imagine what it's like to be sick and almost ready to deliver. For all of you out there who read this, send some prayers this way for the other baby G and her mama!!

I love you, little head of cauliflower!
Mommy
